Like any area, there are good places to eat and well, the not so good. I’ve put this list of restaurants and shacks together so that my fishing clients would know exactly where to go while visiting the area. Good food certainly goes with good fishing and this little corner of Oregon and SW Washington on the Columbia River has both.
Buoy 9 – Hammond
Located across from the boat ramp in Hammond and right next door to the South Jetty Inn, Buoy 9 is a favorite as a post fishing grub stop. I’ve never had a bad anything on the menu, but if I were to have to chose a favorite, the Prime Rib is consistently well prepared. You don’t need to worry about your appearance, many stop in right after coming off the water. Buoy 9 is located at 996 Pacific Drive, Hammond, or 97121.
Dairy Maid – Warrenton
An unassuming little burger shack at the four-way stop in Warrenton. Dairy Maid serves good burgers, fries and shakes. The folks that work there have always served me well and the food has always been up to par if you’re looking for something quick, like I am regularly.
Fultano’s Pizza – Warrenton and Astoria
Fultano’s makes a very good pizza. The sauce is excellent and the ingredients always appear fresh. All you can eat pizza and salad bar is always a hit on Monday nights, it’s even sweeter when Monday Night Football starts :-). Also, the Fultano’s in Warrenton is attached to a great little bar called Bubba’s. It is a “Steeler Backer” bar and the relationship that the bar owner has with the Rooney family is a nice story. The Warrenton address is 58 SE Harbor Drive, Warrenton, OR 97146. The location in Astoria is 620 Olney, Astoria, OR 97103.
Bowpicker- Astoria
For some of the best fish and chips you won’t be disappointed by visiting this landmark in Astoria. Bowpicker’s fish is always albacore tuna and the result is fabulous. There’s only a few picnic tables and the hood of your car to eat on, but I guess that’s part of the experience.
Blue Scorcher Bakery & Cafe – Astoria
In the tradition of NW bakeries and artesian foods, the Blue Scorcher will handle breakfast and lunch just fine. They also serve an excellent, locally roasted coffee. This kind of food is also good on the go. The Blue Scorcher is located at 1493 Duane Street, Astoria, OR 97103
