2014 Fishing Calendar

columbia river fishermen pose with their catch of salmon

Every year I give those who have fished with me in the past the opportunity to book early for the upcoming seasons. Spots and days are limited so this is a good opportunity to plan ahead and make sure you’ve got prime days to look forward to.

This coming year looks to be as good or better than the fishing we had in 2013. Spring Chinook returns to the Columbia are expected to be considerably better than last year. Willamette Spring Chinook should also be improved over 2013.

The upcoming 2014 Fall Chinook season is expected to be similar to last year’s epic return where we saw a million fish return to the Columbia. The big deal here is that these numbers translated to huge returns in Tillamook and Winchester Bay as well.

The major addition to our returns this year is the massive Coho run that’s expected. Yesterday numbers came out that look more like the gaudy returns of 2003 than what we’ve seen recently. Fisheries managers are expecting over a million Coho to return this year to the Columbia and if this turns out to be true, the 2014 fall fishery could actually be better than what we experienced last year.
