Summer Astoria Sturgeon Fishing is in Full Swing

Family fun while trophy sturgeon fishing in Astoria.

Columbia River Estuary

The Columbia River Estuary is a unique fishery where the river meets the sea, and its brackish water provides some of the best fishing opportunities in the Pacific Northwest, possibly in the world. While many know of the Buoy 10 Fall Salmon fishery that begins Astoria 1st in August, fewer people know about the sturgeon season that starts up in June and goes through the beginning of August.

Astoria Sturgeon Fishing

Summer sturgeon fishing in Astoria is unlike any other sturgeon fishing. Chasing monster-sized fish with light tackle is fun on its own. Throw in the shallows and sandbars of the Columbia River Estuary and you’re likely to see these prehistoric fish jumping clear out of the water. It’s hard to describe with words, so we made a little video. Take a look…

The second half of June through July offers some of the best Columbia River Trophy Sturgeon fishing of the year. If you’re like us, once you experience wrestling a 7-foot sturgeon, you’re hooked. Whether you’re young or old, experienced or a novice angler, there really is no other fishing experience to compare it to. Who knows? You may end up jumping out of the boat at a sandbar just to snap an awesome photo with your fish!
