This past week provided some nice opportunities to get out for Ocean Salmon fishing out of Astoria. Coho Salmon are busy fattening up before beginning their Columbia River run next month. Hungry fish, favorable tides, and beautiful weather make an ideal combination. Most days we were able to run combination trips, Ocean Salmon fishing first thing in the morning followed by Trophy Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia River to finish up the day. The best of two fisheries rolled into one trip.
Astoria will continue to offer both Ocean Salmon and Columbia River Sturgeon combo fishing opportunities through July and into the first half of August. Once August 14th arrives, salmon fishing takes center stage as the Columbia River opens up for Buoy 10 Fall Salmon fishing. We’ll be targeting Chinook Salmon in the river through the 27th at this famous fishery. After that, Coho Salmon will be in our sights through most of September.
With just a month until the Buoy 10 opener, Astoria is already making preparations for all of the excitement. The local restaurant scene is abundant, there are dozens of hotels to choose from, and many sights and sites to visit 🙂 Founded in 1811, Astoria is a unique coastal/river town with a rich history to explore. Seeing it from a guided fishing boat gives it a whole new perspective beyond what you can see on land. Yes, we provide the fishing experience, but we’re here to help with the rest of your trip too!
The local businesses, including ours, have taken the whole COVID thing very seriously. Preparations have been made to be able to allow all of us to experience the 2020 fishing season. We’re thankful for the outdoors and that it is one of the safer places to be right now. That being said, we still want to be vigilant and respectful.
