Columbia River Summer Chinook Opener Extended

Columbia River Summer Chinook Salmon on a Kwikfish lure

The Columbia River Compact just announced an extension of the Columbia River Summer Chinook opener that was slated to close today. Retention will be allowed through July 15th, giving us an additional week to chase summer salmon on the Columbia River. At that point, fishery managers will review numbers and add more fishing opportunities if possible.

Summer Chinook Salmon retention will continue to be open from Tongue Point upstream to Pasco, Washington, allowing us to launch from the Portland area and also farther west toward Astoria. Bag limits are 2 adult hatchery Chinook and 2 jack hatchery Chinook Salmon. With some warmer weather heading our way over the next week, it’s a great time to spend some time on the water with friends or family. Sit back, relax, and wait for your rod to bounce. Then watch silver flash as you reel in your catch. What could be better?
