The Columbia River will be open for Summer Chinook Salmon retention for five days, July 4th through July 8th, throughout the stretch from Tongue Point to Pasco, Washington. The joint-state compact met today to review options and just announced the opener. We’re excited to have a few more dates to keep fish on the Columbia River during prime summer months.
The catch limit is 2 adult and 2 jack hatchery Chinook Salmon. All steelhead and sockeye must be released. With Chinook throughout the entire river at this point, we’ll be fishing from both the Astoria and Portland areas during this opener.
One of my favorite ways to spend a summer day is fishing for Summer Chinook on the Columbia River. We target Chinook with a Kwikfish and sardine combination on the outgoing tides. On the incoming tides we can do some Sturgeon fishing which can make for a great day!
