It’s a great time of year to be fishing in the Pacific Northwest. It’s nice to see the orange thing in the sky and equally nice to be able to have so many fishing options. Salmon, steelhead and sturgeon are all available now through July. Here’s the 411 on the fishing options:
This is an amazing catch and release fishery that is characterized by the word WOW. Big fish and lots of them. Right now we’re seeing some of the bigger fish show up and by July, bigfishpalooza is happening. The Columbia River is certainly known for Sturgeon, but there isn’t better fishing than what happens in the summer in the estuary around Astoria. Astoria is an awesome town and the fishing is made even better by the accommodations that we have available to our clients. How does waking up and simply walking down the dock to my boat sound? This is a bucket list fishery for sure.
Fishing will be open for Salmon and Steelhead on the Columbia River from June 19 through July 31. I have trip options from Portland to Astoria. We are allowed two Salmonid. 1 of which can be a Steelhead. Salmon and Steelhead must be clipped. Sockeye don’t have to be. Having all three species in the river at one time is pretty amazing. I can’t think of another system that provides such an opportunity.
I love this fishery. This is old school NW summer steelheading fun. Jet boat fishing on the Cowlitz offers clients with the opportunity to see lots of river and the beautiful scenery that the Cowlitz is known for. Yes, steelhead coming four feet out of the water and cartwheeling down the river is never bad either. Limit’s are two fish per person.
