The 2020 Buoy 10 Salmon season has been set! The full text of the joint decision by ODFW and WDFW is online, but here’s the season in a nutshell… Fishing on the Columbia River in Astoria opens up on August 14th this year. We can fish for both Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon through the 27th of August, with a daily limit of 1 salmon. All wild coho must be released. From August 28th through September 22nd, retention will be limited to hatchery Coho Salmon, which can provide some great days of fall fishing. After September 23rd, we will be able to fish for Chinook Salmon again.
This year’s Buoy 10 season looks a bit different than in years past, with dates shifted a little later. We’re looking forward to being out on the water guiding fishing trips in one of the most well-known salmon fisheries of the Pacific Northwest. Astoria is a dynamic coastal town, and August and September generally provide some of the nicest weather of the entire year. There are great places to stay, wonderful places to eat, and lots of sights to see when you’re not out fishing. Buoy 10 salmon season becomes a community of its own, with residents and visitors coming together with one common goal…catching salmon.
