Portland Sturgeon Fishing: It’s Go Time!

Beautiful November Willamette River Sturgeon

November brought the changing of the seasons, with some great rain systems and also some beautiful crisp days. The last few days of the month have been mild and fairly dry. I’ll take 60 degrees in Portland in November anytime! We’ve wrapped up a pretty amazing fall salmon season, and we’re not done fishing in 2021. It’s time to wrangle some big fish in the Portland area, where the fall rains have created some pretty nice fishing opportunities for sturgeon.

The Willamette River has been the place to be for sturgeon fishing the past month. Thanksgiving weekend let us enjoy a free fishing weekend, beautiful weather, and some epic battles where we reeled in fish up to 7’ long! This isn’t just any catch and release fishery. White sturgeon are the largest freshwater fish in North America, and you can spend the day wrangling them to the boat. There’s no other experience like a day of sturgeon fishing, no matter your age or ability. Take home photos and videos to share with your friends and family, and memories that will last a lifetime. The season is just getting started as these monsters will spend the next 6 months in the Willamette River. We’ll be sturgeon fishing in the Portland area through the winter and spring of 2022.

As we head into the final month of 2021, with milder temperatures than normal, I’m looking forward to continued sturgeon fishing opportunities in the Portland area. Bring your family or friends, bundle up in layers, and enjoy some time on the water in the Pacific Northwest.
